Yes, I want to rest.\n\nEither the particle O or GA may be used to indicate the object of a desiderative form, e.g.,\n\nNIHONGO O NARAITAI DESU. or NIHONGO GA NARAITAI DESU.\n\n\"I want to learn Japanese.\"\n\nIn questions, -TAI constructions mean 'do you want to do so-and-so?' and the meaning is not the Japanese equivalent of such English invitations as 'would you like to do so-and-so?' A common construction of invitation in Japanese is a non-past negative question, e.g.,\n\nSUKOSHI YASUMIMASEN KA. \"Would you like to rest a little?\"\n\nMOO SUKOSHI TABEMASEN KA. \"Won't you have a little more?\""},{"section":2,"text":"X O Y ni suru \"I make X into Y.\"\n\n2. This construction occurs in an affirmative sentence with a generalized or inclusive meaning like 'anything at all (or everything),' 'anybody at all (or everybody),' 'anytime at all (or everytime),' e.g.,\n\nNAN DEMO everything, anything\n\nDARE DEMO everybody or anybody\n\nITSU DEMO anytime\n\nDOKO DEMO anyplace\n\nDOTCHI DEMO anyone of the two\n\nDORE DEMO anyone\n\nNANJI DEMO anytime\n\netc.\n\nExamples:\n\nWATAKUSHI WA NAN DEMO TABEMASU. \"I eat anything.\"\n\nDARE DEMO II DESU. \"anybody will do.\"\n\nITSU DEMO II DESU. \"Anytime will do.\"\n\nAn expression like NAN DEMO may be followed immediately by a phrase limiting the thing, e.g.,\n\nNAN DEMO KAITAI MONO O KAINASAI. \"Buy anything you want to buy.\"\n\nDOKO DEMO SUKI NA TOKORO E IKINASAI. \"Go anyplace you like.\""},{"section":5,"text":"TOOKU 'a distant place' / CHIKAKU 'vicinity, neighborhood' / OOKU 'many, much'\n\n5.
