Car repairs and road damage · Dialogue 1 of 4

Repairs before a family drive

*自動車の 手入れを してるんだ。来週は 家族を つれて ドライブに 行こうと 思って* means the speaker is repairing his car before a family drive.

*ドライブ* is the loan word for "a drive". Loan words are nouns in Japanese, and adding *SURU* makes an appropriate verb.

*DCRAIBU-SURU* means "to drive".

Poor roads damage the whole car

*日本は 道路が 悪いので、自動車も 早く いたむね* says cars wear out quickly because roads in Japan are bad.

*エンジンばかりでなく、シャシーや ボデーも 早く いたむよ* adds the chassis and body to the engine.

*BAKKU-SURU* means "to go backward".

Kanji: 路, 窓, 石

Since the Meiji Restoration of 1868, English learning has become very vigorous and English words rapidly flowed from the school to the home and since World War II, Japanese have poured their energies into the study of English and adopted a tremendous number of loan-words. English has provided ninety percent of the foreign words used by the Japanese today. All loan words are considered nouns in Japanese. To make an appropriate verb out of them, the verb SURU is suffixed. Following are the examples of English words used as verbs and the Katakana is used for these words

1 DORAIBU-SURU to drive
PANKU-SURU to puncture
BAKKU-SURU to go backward
DANSU-SURU to dance
