Golf courses around Monterey · Dialogue 1 of 5
Eleven courses around Monterey
*カリフォルニア 州の モンテレーは、いい ゴルフ コースが 多いので 有名だね* means "Monterey, in California, is famous because it has many good golf courses, isn't it?"
The speakers count eleven courses around the Monterey Peninsula. They compare public, military, and club courses, then compare their numbers of holes.
Monterey's famous courses
Monterey is called the Golf Capital of the World. It has six 18-hole courses, including the world-famous Pebble Beach course.
The annual Bing Crosby Golf Tournament is held there each January. It attracts thousands of people, including famous screen actors.

Challenges of oceanfront golf · Dialogue 3 of 5
Golf beside the ocean
The speakers describe bunkers, rough, strong wind, and fairways beside the ocean. *下手を すると 海の 中に うちこむ* means "If you are not careful, you will hit into the ocean."
Even simple shots fail under this pressure. Trying harder can produce more mistakes.
Par, much less a birdie
*バーディは おろか、パーさえ 望めない* means "You cannot hope for a par, let alone a birdie."
*は おろか* follows the less attainable result, *バーディ*. The line then says that even the more attainable *パー* is beyond hope.
